Installing artificial turf on a rooftop requires specialized planning to protect the building structure and ensure long-term performance. Earth Design evaluates load capacity, preserves the waterproofing membrane, and uses non-penetrating installation methods to prevent leaks or structural damage.
Proper drainage is critical. We install elevated drainage mats and work with existing roof slopes to ensure water flows freely to drains, preventing pooling or mildew. Turf systems are secured without penetrating the membrane, using high-performance adhesives and perimeter detailing designed for wind resistance.
Material selection matters. We specify lightweight, UV-stable, high-density turf suited for rooftop exposure and heavy use. Where reflective heat from windows is a concern, we recommend higher heat-resistant turf, nylon options to reduce melting risk. Architects usually require this for commercial buildings as well as a Class A Fire Rating.
